    What Our Students are Saying...

  • First of all, I started my English class because I wanted to improve my English skills. During this time, I have seen very positive progress in fluency and pronunciation. I have noticed my progress in the intonation of words thanks to the information received in our classes. I want to continue working on learning new vocabulary and further improve my pronunciation. Second, I want to start an academic program in Canada. I hope to study business administration – financial services, and I must have the level of English required to continue my studies. Finally, I want to have better job opportunities and become a Canadian citizen. In the future, I want to finish my studies. I would like to work for an insurance or financial company as Finance Manager and live in Canada for many more years.

    -Mary Arango

  • I feel stressed when struggling with my communication in English. I sometimes do not understand what people say in specific circumstances, so I need to ask to fully understand. In daily life, I am allowed to ask, but I am studying flying right now. In the air, the pilot is required to have smooth communication for safety, especially in the South Steinbach area due to uncontrolled space. Another reason is that I would like to live in Canada for 15 years as a pilot after getting my pilot's license. I need a full-time job to get permanent residence and I need to speak English well to do so.

Reasons to Learn English

Learning English isn’t just about communication—it opens doors to new opportunities, strengthens connections, and even benefits your brain health! Studies show that bilingualism can improve memory, delay the onset of dementia, and aid in stroke recovery (BBC.com). Here are some key reasons to improve your English skills:

1. More Job Opportunities

Many employers require English skills for workplace communication. By improving your English, you’ll be better prepared for writing resumes, attending job interviews, and communicating effectively with coworkers and supervisors.

2. Access to Higher Education

Strong English skills can help you pursue further education. Many colleges and universities require a CLB 6+ for enrollment. English classes can improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills—essential for success in academic and technical training programs. For example, our Communication for Health Care Aides course supports those advancing from a Health Care Worker to a Nurse.

3. Understand Culture and Avoid Miscommunication

Language and culture are deeply connected. Learning English also means understanding tone, body language, and expressions. Without cultural knowledge, some phrases or gestures may be misinterpreted as rude or dismissive. Improving your English helps you interact confidently and avoid misunderstandings in both social and professional settings.

4. Help Those Around You

As your English improves, so will your ability to communicate clearly and naturally. You’ll gain the skills to participate in conversations, understand workplace interactions, and even help interpret for others when needed.

5. Keep Your Mind Sharp

Learning a new language challenges your brain, keeping it active and engaged. Best of all, many English classes—like ours—are free and accessible, making it easy to continue learning from home or in the classroom.
